Couples Counseling
Couples counseling is an effort to recognize and better manage or reconcile troublesome differences and repeating patterns of distress in the relationship. Areas of difficulty can include repetitive arguments, feelings of distance or emptiness in the relationship, pervasive feelings of anger, resentment and or dissatisfaction or lack of interest in affection or in a physical relationship with one another.
Typically, both partners in the relationship attend the counseling session to discuss the couple's specific issues. Individual sessions with each partner occur on a regular basis during the counseling process. The aim of couple's counseling is to help a couple deal appropriately with their immediate problems and to learn better ways of relating in general.
Couple therapy involves only the couple. Children may be affected either directly or indirectly by problems in their parents' relationship, however the focus in couple's counseling is the relationship between the partners.
The bottom line is that if you are bothered by problems with emotions or behaviors in your relationship, if your ability to love and/or work are being negatively affected, then you may benefit from couples counseling.
